The Blues Kitchen is to run a Rhythm & Blues Festival from Monday 22nd to Sunday 28th February 2010. Featuring seven days of live blues bands and performers, the festival will also include a New Orleans-themed Mardi Gras Party on the Saturday. 60's pioneers The Pretty Things and freewheeling blues harmonica maverick, Son Of Dave are to play, as are Ian Siegal, Big Joe Louis & His Blues Kings and Little Barrie, while Nine Below Zero host a Sunday Blues Jam Since launching in October 2009, The Blues Kitchen has tapped into the resurgence in blues popularity that's emerged through rockabilly clubs and Northern Soul nights says Promotions Manager Liam Spratt. "Blues is now firmly back on to the London radar thanks to the likes of The Blues Kitchen, and we offer live music every night until late and DJs plucking tunes from the best record collections in town." As well as the live acts, festival-goers will be able to participate in day-time activities, such as harmonica classes, and The Blues Kitchen’s soul-food and bourbon cocktail menus. The opening night, featuring The Pretty Things, is the only ticketed event throughout the festival. All the other shows are completely free. Saturday 27th February features a Harmonica seminar led by Captain Bliss. During the class, Bliss will teach basic technique and classic blues standards. In the evening the venue will be transformed into 'Bourbon Street' to host a New Orleans Mardi Gras party, with guests will dress up in their finest feather headdresses, don beads and dance to Dixieland, blues and jazz.
